IN-OFFICE PROCEDURES

We want to provide you with a comfortable and safe setting in which to have minor procedures, surrounded by the smiling faces you already know and are comfortable with.

You may arrive early to receive certain preoperative medications, administered by the anesthesia team. Constant monitoring is done by the Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA), who assists in making your experience as comfortable as possible.

Wear comfortable clothes during your stay with us.

After the surgery you are able to recover in a cozy recliner, and enjoy a drink and snack as our friendly team monitors your progress.

Patients generally are able to return home after just a brief recovery.

In-office surgery can avoid hospital co-pays from your insurance.

HYSTEROSCOPY

Hysteroscopy is a procedure that provides a complete picture of the inside of your uterus. Your NSWH doctor can perform this procedure to diagnose and possibly treat heavy periods, pain, and infertility. It can be performed in the office, surgery center or hospital.

Examples of conditions that can be seen include polyps, fibroids, cancer and others. Other procedures, such as polyp removal (polypectomy), endometrial ablation and D&C can be combined with hysteroscopy to treat heavy bleeding.

POLYPECTOMY

Hysteroscopy with polypectomy (sometimes aided by a Myosure device) is a procedure that identifies and treats a cause of heavy bleeding: an endometrial polyp (a ball-like thickening of the lining of your uterus.) This procedure can be done in the office, surgery center or hospital.

Recovery for this procedure is minimal and you are able to go home the same day and return to work within the next day or two after surgery.

ENDOMETRIAL ABLATION

Suffering from heavy periods? NSWH doctors can help. Endometrial ablation is a procedure that treats heavy bleeding and painful periods. It can be performed in the office, surgery center or hospital. This procedure can be very successful in treating heavy bleeding and painful periods. Most women experience lighter, less painful periods. Some women lose their periods altogether.

Novasure endometrial ablation treats the lining of the uterus by heating a mesh that’s been expanded inside the uterus.

The recovery for an endometrial ablation lasts only a few days. You are able to go home the same day and return to work a few days after surgery.

Sampling to detect precancerous conditions of the uterus is recommended prior to the surgery. Your NSWH doctor is happy to treat your periods with this procedure if it is the right procedure for you!

GYNECOLOGIC D&C

A Dilation & Curettage is a procedure that is performed to diagnose the potential causes of heavy periods. It can be done in the office, surgery center or hospital under local or general anesthesia. You are able to go home the same day. The recovery is minimal. Discuss specific concerns and risks with your Women’s Care doctor.

LEEP PROCEDURE

A LEEP procedure removes pre-cancerous areas of the cervix in order to preventcervical cancer. It is done under local anesthesia.

Please discuss specific concerns and risks with your Women’s Care Provider.

ENDOMETRIAL BIOPSY

Endometrial biopsy is a quick procedure done in the office to detect cancerous and precancerous conditions of the inside lining of the uterus, the endometrium. It is performed if you experience heavy bleeding, bleeding between periods or if your uterine lining is found to be thickened by ultrasound.
